Morrie is a retired farmer and ex-parts man for a John Deere dealership. He lives in Wilmar, MN. A few years ago, he decided to find himself an old John Deere to restore, and fill a gap left behind after selling his tractors when he moved into town.
The tractor he found was this MT model. I wish I had a photo of it before restoration as I didn't see it until it was completed. According to him, it was a mess.
He did the machanical work and hired out the painting. It is a real beauty, and he is very proud of it. Me too!
After the MT was completed, Morrie decided to tackle another project. He found this B. The sheet metal was in rough shape, but mechanically it was sound.
Again, he did all the mechanical work and straightened the sheet metal getting it ready for painting - which he hired out. It turned out beautifully! I know where the dents and dings were and I can't see any imperfections now!
Here you can see both tractors in their finished states. What a great looking duo - the tractors don't look too bad either!
Morrie says if he gets another project, it'll be a Model H John Deere. I hope he decides to tackle another one. These old machines are a blast!
New tires are already fitted. You can see some of the spots on the sheet metal where he has done some work.
When I first saw this tractor, I took it out for a spin around the block. I was having so much fun that I kept going and Grams and Morrie came looking for me in the car - they thought I was lost or had trouble! Nope. "This is too much fun", I told them.
